A Survival Analysis Study on Elderly Abuse Period and Risk Factors in the Period after Retirement of Korean Elderly People : Focused on Busan Metropolitan City and Gyeongsangnam-do

The purpose of this study is to analyze the age of elderly abuse after retirement, information on the abuse time, and the factors influencing the time and period with the use of survival analysis in order to find a plan for postponing or impeding elderly abuse after retirement. To achieve that, this researcher used the elderly aged over 61 living in Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do as study subjects and analyzed the time taken to have elderly abuse after retirement, the risk probability by year after retirement and by type of elderly abuse, and risk factors in each abuse time. The main results are presented as follows: First, 20.3% of respondents had negligence; 14.4% economic abuse; 13.3% emotional abuse; 8% physical abuse. Secondly, age was found to become a critical characteristic for the time of elderly abuse. Physical abuse, emotional abuse, and economic abuse were highly likely to occur within 2 years after retirement; negligence was highly likely to occur within 1 year after retirement. Thirdly, regarding the risk factors in each elderly abuse time after retirement, physical abuse was influenced by family relation factor and economic factor; emotional abuse was influenced by family relation factor; economic abuse was influenced by family relation factor, health factor and assailant`s characteristics; negligence was influenced by family relation factor and economic factor. Given the results, it is necessary to provide intensive elderly abuse prevention education within 1-2 years after retirement and expand and enhance the conventional policy on income security for elderly as a plan for preventing elderly abuse after retirement. Also, this study suggested the active use of adult guardian system, the expansion of public care service.
